§ 13.08.080. Customer water line from property line

  • A. In installing water service, the meter must be installed under supervision of the superintendent of public utilities.

    B. There shall be a meter in every service line attached to the water main. There shall be one or more stops and waste cocks attached to every supply pipe at some point between the main and the meter so water can be shut off entirely if the meter and the house plumbing need to be drained. There shall be another such stop and waste cock in the pipe on the house side of the meter. This cost shall be borne by the consumer, reference under Section 13.08.030

    C. Check valves are required on all water connections to steam boilers or any other connection deemed by the superintendent of public utilities to require one. Safety and release valves shall be placed on all boilers or other steam apparatus connections with the water system where the steam pressure may be raised in excess of fifty (50) pounds per square inch.

    D. All service pipes connected with the water system from the water mains to water meters shall be copper or poly pipe if they meet the following standards:

    1. Water main and service line piping (two inches and smaller):

    •  Three-quarter-inch through two-inch diameter shall be HDPE, SDR 7 (two hundred (200) psi) water service line pipe (IPS) per ASTM D2239 and AWWA C901.

    2. Fittings for the poly pipe shall meet all three standards:

    •  Compression type, polypropylene, with UV stabilization.

    •  True stab assembly with gripper type restraining device.

    •  Two hundred (200) psi pressure rating, suitable for IPS pipe.
