§ 2.04.010. Meetings of city council

  • A. The common council shall hold its regular meetings on the first Thursday following the first Tuesday of each month at three-thirty p.m., or as soon thereafter as convenient on such day, at the Council Room of the city.

    B. Regular Meetings. At all regular meetings of the common council after the same shall have been called to order, the business of the meeting shall be considered in the following order:

    1. Roll call of members;

    2. Listen to business of visitors;

    3. Correction and approval of the minutes of the last regular meeting and of any intervening special meeting or meetings;

    4. Presentation of claims and communications;

    5. Unfinished business;

    6. New business;

    7. Adjournment.

    This order of business may be temporarily suspended at any meeting by the affirmative vote of a majority of the common council.

    C. Special Meetings. Special meetings of the common council may be called by the mayor or by any two aldermen at any time to consider only such matters as shall be mentioned in the call for such meeting, and personal notice of special meetings shall be given either in writing or by telephone to each member of the common council.

    D. Pursuant to SDCL Section 9-8-4 the municipality of Wall is an aldermanic form of government made up of six council members and one mayor.

    Pursuant to SDCL Section 9-8-8 a majority of the alderman elected shall constitute a quorum to do business, but a smaller number may adjourn from time to time. Therefore a quorum would consist of at least four council members present at a public meeting to take action.

    E. Authority. Robert's Rules of Order will be followed for all parliamentary procedure.
