§ 13.04.020. Duties of superintendent of public utilities

  • The duties of the superintendent of public utilities shall be as follows;

    A. He or she shall be responsible for the maintenance and operation of the municipal water plant and its distribution system, and also the city sewers.

    B. It shall be his or her duty to keep the public utilities in a good state of repair to the end that service to consumers may be interrupted as little as possible.

    C. He or she shall keep or cause to be kept, monthly log sheets on forms to be provided for that purpose on which shall be shown daily and hourly meter readings and such other facts as may be required to complete such forms.

    D. The superintendent shall make annual report immediately after December 31st of each year showing a complete invoice of all material, repairs, tools, fuel, lubricants, and all articles and material of every kind and nature covering the municipal water plant and its distribution system. Such report shall be made in duplicate, the original to be kept on file by the superintendent and the duplicate to be filed with the finance officer and submitted to the city council at its next regular meeting following the filing of such report.

    E. The superintendent shall also, as a part of the report provided for in the preceding subsection, show the following facts:

    1. The condition of the property of each utility;

    2. Its requirements for proper maintenance;

    3. As to the water utility, the number of gallons of water pumped for preceding annual period and number of gallons of water sold for such period.

    F. The superintendent of public utilities and his or her assistant or assistants shall be subject to removal and discharge at any time for cause by the city council.
